We want to thank Hope Clinic for providing amazing volunteers to help us collect donations, Standard Printing for helping us create flyers and posters for the event, the Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti Regional Chamber for helping to share this event to its members and the community, and we want to thank all the amazing businesses that helped by making very generous donations – Betsy Meade Orthodontics, Larky, Real Estate One, TheRide, Kroger on Whittaker Road, and Target on Carpenter Road… just to name a few!! Help our community Fill a FORD for KIDS!

Washtenaw Federal Credit Union, Gene Butman Ford, and UAW Local 898 have joined forces to help support HOPE Clinic in Ypsilanti! These organizations recognize the important role that Hope Clinic has in the Ypsilanti Community and they wanted to work together to collect donations for the clinic. After several meetings with staff at the clinic it was determined that there is a need for school supplies and dental supplies for the children, thus their Fill a FORD for KIDS campaign was born! Gene Butman Ford has generously offered to supply vehicles to place throughout the community at four separate locations on Saturday June 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for residents and supporters to drop off their donations! Vehicles will be located in the Target parking lot on 3749 Carpenter Road (just North of Ellsworth), in the UAW Local 898 parking lot on 8975 Textile Road, in the Key Bank parking lot in Downtown Ypsilanti at 301 W. Michigan Avenue, and at Gene Butman Ford 2105 Washtenaw Avenue. Volunteers from each organization will be at each location to help collect donations throughout the day. You may also deliver any donations to either of Washtenaw Federal Credit Union’s offices located at 424 S. Mansfield (Michigan Avenue and Mansfield intersection) or 1861 Whittaker Road (across from Kroger) anytime up until this Friday June 17th! Thank you so much for your support and for helping these organizations support Hope Clinic! We hope to see you Saturday! Recap of WFCU’s 2016 Annual Meeting & What’s Ahead For The Rest of 2016!

Hello to all of our wonderful members! We wanted to share a recap of our 2016 Annual Meeting that took place on the evening of Tuesday, May 17th at our main office located at Michigan Avenue and Mansfield in Ypsilanti. The meeting was brief as usual, and we had a good number of members in attendance ranging from our board of directors, volunteers from several of our committees, our staff, and our management team! Jason Matley, WFCU’s President & CEO began the meeting by welcoming all in attendance and by giving a brief update on how 2015 went. He also highlighted some of the really exciting things we have planned as we continue to move through 2016. Some notable accomplishments from 2015 were things like the creation of our new WFCU Mobile Application that allows our members the capability to check balances, move money, pay bills, apply for a loan and more now directly from their mobile phone! The WFCU Mobile App is available for download free on both Apple and Android devices. WFCU also completely revamped its website, making it more user friendly for our members and packing it with loads of helpful information! WFCU also created several new social media accounts that have been actively used to engage members, provide useful information to our followers, and provide another means of communication for anyone wanting to reach us. Look for us now on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram! What can members expect from WFCU in 2016? We are nearing the launch of a second mobile application for our members called WFCU Member Perks! This is another free perk...

Interested In Putting Solar Panels on Your Home?

Hello to all our WFCU members! It’s warming up outside and Spring is finally here! Yes, according to the calendar it was “officially” here several weeks ago but lets face it, the weather and the calendar didn’t do a very good job of coordinating things. The weather has been beautiful and we’ve had more members submitting their Michigan Saves Loan Applications to receive funding for their energy efficient improvements on their homes! Did you know that Washtenaw Federal Credit Union has partnered with Michigan Saves to offer our members a loan product that you can use to make exciting improvements to your homes? It’s true! We are currently offering to our members an opportunity to receive an unsecured loan from $1,000 to $30,000 to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements on your home. For more information on this program you can visit MichiganSaves.org! They are working very hard to make this process easy for you with no home appraisal or equity required! Homeowners can choose from a list of qualified improvements such as new windows and doors, new air conditioners or furnaces, or even new appliances! You can even have a home energy assessment done to identify what you can do to spend less money on energy in your home. If this is something you’d like to take advantage of please feel free to contact WFCU anytime! We are happy to answer any questions you may have or help point you in the right direction so you may begin applying for your loan. The first step is to find a Michigan Saves Authorized Contractor to receive an estimate...

An Honor to Attend the 2016 CUNA Marketing & Business Development Conference

Just last week I had the privilege of attending the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Conference in Anaheim, California! To be selected as one of ten young professionals from across the nation to attend the conference as a “crasher” was a tremendous honor! I am so grateful that CUNA (Credit Union National Association), the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council, Filene, and the Cooperative Trust provide this opportunity to developing credit union leaders around the country. The passion and enthusiasm for credit unions and the credit union movement was absolutely incredible and helped reinforce without a doubt why I love working in this industry! Attendee’s participated in a variety of different breakout sessions throughout the week and had the privilege of hearing from two fantastic keynote speakers, Johnny Earle from Johnny Cupcakes and Scott Stratten from Unmarketing! Throughout the four-day conference, attendee’s were also frequently reminded of the Seven Cooperative Principles; principles that all credit union’s and other cooperative organizations abide by that help make them great! I have these principles hanging in my office and I use them to inspire me everyday to do the best that I can for my organization. I wanted to share them below – and to all of our members and future members reading this, these principles are all about you! A cooperative organization is built by people to serve people, and puts forth as the first priority the best interest of the members. There are no shareholders, only members, and cooperatives are not driven by profit, but rather by serving their members in the best ways that they can! The principles are...

Cash, Debit, or Credit – which do you prefer using?

We’d like to say a special thank you to Ms. Libby Kane for her article on this topic published by Business Insider. As you know, most all of us have numerous ways to pay for things or ‘payment options’ in our wallets! Many of us have debit cards linked to our checking account(s) and also credit cards that allow us to pay for things we desire by borrowing money and paying it back at a later date. Some of us also still prefer to pay with cold hard cash! I’m sure I am not the only one who knows someone who carries around a wad of cash in his or her pocket and uses that to pay for everything… then they ask me why I don’t have cash, to which I reply “It’s okay, I forgot to pluck a few twenties off the money tree in my back yard this morning”… Okay, Okay, I may have gone off on a little tangent there. Anyway, back to what I was saying! There are several different ways to pay for things and how do you know which may be the best for you? The truth is that everyone and everyone’s situation is different so there really is no right answer that is set in stone; however, we found an article that offers some pretty good suggestions that we wanted to share with you! Ms. Libby Kane, Author of Should You Use Cash, Debit, or Credit? helps to simplify each definition for us. As we know, credit allows us to borrow money with the promise that we will pay it back at...

Tax Season is here again…Helpful tips from WFCU!

Hello to all our WFCU Members! It’s tax season again…and we don’t need to remind you how stressful this time of year can be. We wanted to offer a few helpful insights that may help guide you through the 2016 tax season. We know that there are millions of people across the nation expecting a tax refund this year, and we also know that a great deal of these people have probably already decided on several different ways to spend that refund money. But before you decide on that shiny new car or that vacation to anywhere but here (how many of you were thinking Hawaii…?) the money you receive from your tax return could also be used to improve your financial health! Sometimes the best option is simply putting away some of that money into your WFCU savings account where you can earn interest on your balance each month and help protect yourself from unexpected expenses. Just think if your furnace decides to kick the bucket you won’t have to borrow money to replace it! You could also take some of that money and pay down some of your credit cards (especially those ones with the highest interest rates). One other great option may be to put that money into an IRA (Individual Retirement Account), which is a great way to save for the future and for your retirement! Our friendly staff at WFCU is well trained in all these areas and would be happy to assist you or answer any questions you may have! If by this point you’ve decided to use your money on one of...
